This gorgeous textile began its life as two humble threads. By virtue of the skill and artistry of generations of indigenous Maya weavers, those two threads were transformed by two human hands to become this beautiful bag.
Perfect for the beach, market or a day bopping around, NOT your average cotton tote!
100% cotton hand woven tote.
Bag is 15 x 15 inches and the strap 10 inches long.
Made on a back strap loom by weavers in the Highlands of Chiapas. Woven in autonomous Tzotzil Maya Territory, established by the EZLN, following a coordinated and armed resistance to the enactment of the original NAFTA Treaty in 1994. The EZLN achieved a form of LAND BACK through their resistance and the formation of caracoles, governed by primarily matriarchal leaders.
